Coming up for air and sleep :-)

Days and nights seem to blur together when little ones are sick. Days are spent snuggling, cleaning, pouring tea, feeling foreheads and praying. Nights are spent snuggling close, listening for croupy barking, praying and sleeping so lightly that it can’t really be considered sleep.

So today I am tired. Rosie is doing better. She went from a teeny bark one morning to full blown croup that next night. After all day of putting GOOT on her we decided it would best to take her to the ER as she was not getting better, but worse.

Thankfully the steroids they put her on started working right away and before we tucked her into bed we all gathered in the kitchen to pray for her. Her breathing was much better throughout the night but she woke up every two hours all night long. Thankfully she still takes good naps and is enjoying lots of snuggle time on the couch.

Here are some things we use when we have sick ones in the house.

Cinnamon/Ginger Tea

PC192496

We drink this all the time. I like that my dtr-in-love even knows how to prepare it. She will whip up a batch for us when she is here.

PC312837

After eating our meal and the kiddos have been put down for naps Hayley and I will sit down and enjoy a spot of tea together :-)

GOOT

Double E Immune Tincture

We made some of this last year and I’m excited for us to be using it as sickness comes knocking on our door. Even little Rosie will take it with any trouble at all. I mixed my batch with part vodka and part glycerin. Using all vodka is too hard on the taste buds but it’s better at drawing out all the goodness from the herbs so I put it in to help with that.

So that’s where I have been….tending to sick ones and enjoying the past two weeks that my handsome husband has been home on his vacation. Now it’s back to work, which is really just fun, disguised to look like work ;-)

I have also prepared a list of what I would like to do this next year. Things my Lord has laid on my heart. I’ll be sharing more of that soon.

Plus I’m already preparing for Valentines Day. Red heart balloons, fun little chocolates, things on sale from Christmas, heart tissue paper, cute mugs…..all so fun!

And gardening….thoughts of greenery, flowers and apple trees are floating through my head as I look outside at the melting snow. It is so fun to plan isn’t it?

Happy  Days~

  1. I'm with you friend...sickness and lack of rest! But the good part is cozy times with littles...that's a treat! Praying for Rosie!

So, funny I was looking up Valentine ideas just today. Lots of thought ;) So many things to think of when littles are sick and Mama is down to a slow pace caring for them.

    Prayers & Hugs~

    1. Got your letters today. So happy when I saw not one, but two!!

*You* are my inspiration for preparing for Valentines Day. You always have such creativity and thoughtfulness in every holiday/event/birthday that I'm totally inspired to do more this year.

Yes I am so thankful for cuddle time. Those truly are the best times!!

Thank you for those prayers. My prayers for you and the kids have been sleepy ones of late but they still count right? haha!

  2. Oh my, we have had so much sickness here, too. Lots of praying, medicine, natural remedies, and cuddling. After our trip to IN and back with 8 kids running fevers the day after we arrived, home never looked so good! :)

All of your planning gets me excited. I have been doing some thinking, but haven't had time yet to sit down and really make some new plans.

By the way, I love Rosie's new picture on the sidebar. She is such a doll! And thanks for your Christmas pic. We received it yesterday.

    Have a lovely day,
    Amy

  4. What great advice. Thanks so much for sharing. I tried emailing you last night from my phone but for some reason lost your email. Not sure how that happened. Things are different on my phone. Anyway, I just wanted to say hey! I haven't chatted with you in some time. Life has been crazy busy around here as I'm sure it has been for you. Hope your family is doing well. Thanks so much for the beautiful Christmas card.

    1. Helllooooo Tricia :-) I think life will always be crazy - haha! It's just that some weeks are less crazy than others, right? We are doing wonderfully and God is so good. Isn't HE. As life strolls along it just keeps getting better and better with him by our side.

      Glad you stopped by!

  5. Checkinf in to see how you all are feeling?
The news is reporting a bad flu season is upon us. We went to the "city" last night for work and dinner out. And I filled us up with Elderberry and Silver Shield. Doing my part to hopefully keep the germs away! I feel like the last few weeks have been a blur of activity and I'm so anxious to get "settled" into our routine and new year...which means the flu should hit us at any moment! Ha.

    Take care sweet mama.
Praying for good health for you and yours.

    1. Thank you for checking in. Stopping by for tea is totally acceptable too ;-)

Settled, yes we've not yet gotten there but it's within sight.

Thank you for checking in on us. We are finally doing better. Just a few sniffles here and there and sleep is coming a bit better.

  6. Hi Cinnamon, I hope you are feeling better. I have a bit of it myself this week, but only one son left home limits the amount of passing it around that can sometimes happen when there is a whole crew of you at home, so I think I have had more rest than you. It looks like you and I are on the same page this week. I laughed when I read your post... it is right along the lines of mine.. at least in terms of home remedies. I would like to link you in the next couple of weeks if you don't mind, because I am going to feature a couple of different remedies each week from my list, and I would love to link your tincture and the goot (that looked wonderful... I am anxious to try it.). We do a lot of ginger tea and ginger water as well. I liked your addition of Cinnamon to the tea I would love to try that. Thanks for sharing. Your family is precious, and I always enjoy your posts.

Ginger/Cinnamon Tea is the best. So tasty and so helpful during times of illness.
